  I need help! Talk coming up and I need ideas fast!

  omg i am so distressed.

  i have a talk coming up on tuesday, it is the number 3 "abiram.

  why opposing god appointed authority is tantamount to opposing god himself"!.

  This is the theme, correct? "Why opposing God appointed authority is tantamount to opposing God himself"!"

  Why not slightly change the end of your talk to not focus on "humans", but focus only on Jesus?

  "Today as Christians, we follow Jesus. We should be loyal to the pattern Jesus laid out for humans to follow.

  And as Galatians 1:8,9 brings out, we do not want to divert from the ORIGINAL good news that Christ taught. We today, just like in Moses day and the 1 st century need to be able to see proof of God approval when we follow any human's lead.

  Jesus is the highest authority appointed by God.

  Always look to Jesus' example when choosing which course to take, thus avoid any opposition to God."

  preaching and memorial question

  i asked a jw why most of them don't partake of the bread and wine at their memorial, and was told that the command was given to the disciples only.. at the end of matthew's gospel, the command is given to the 11 disciples to go out and preach to everyone, so why do those who don't take the bread and wine go out knocking doors preaching?.

  surely if only the disciples can take the emblems then only the disciples should preach.. no explanation of where the 144,000 come into it was given.. .

  Why would the "annointed" need "other help"?

  Is it all about the money?

  often on this forum there are posts about how the gb are obsessed with money and some people here often suggest this impacts every decision the gb makes i.e.

  on my holiday thread it was suggested jws aren't allowed to celebrate holidays as it means spending money on presents that they want for themselves.. i however, do not think this is at all true.

  the society rarely talks about money and as a percentage of income i think the vast majority of jws contribute a very small amount simply because the society rarely talk about it.. obviously money is important to the society in the sense that they couldn't run a major organisation without it, so they have to ask for it at times and factor it in to some of their decision making, but actually the gb live quite frugally and seem to worry much more about clinging to their authority and power than getting rich.. my controversial suggestion of the day is that saying the gb are obsessed with money must make us look silly to lurkers.. what does the jwn intellegentsia think then?.

  Money, money, money, MOOONey.... so the song goes...

  Only $500__ per month? I am in the US, so let's say $200 per month x 50,000 congregations = $10,000,000 (ten million) a month!

  That is 120 million a year!

  Let alone, at each "Circuit Assembly" they would say "Oh, we need $6,000 more to cover our costs for this weekend (and the hall is paid off) and oh, by the way (at the end of the ass-embly) they would casually tell us "Oh, and the brothers voted, and the $5,000 left over from our expenses will be sent to the Society. Aren't we all happy?" ( wish I had $10,000 to write a check to them at the beginning of the Ass-embly just to see if they would still ask for $$$)

  So, let's just say $5,000 x 50 weeks (out of a year) = $250,000 a year for one circuit in the US. If there are 100 circuits, you now have $25,000,000 a year!

  I have been around a long while, and I remember when there were FEW requests for donations in the KM.

  NOW, over the past few years I read in the "Kingdom" Ministry, there are parts on the meetings almost EVERY OTHER MONTH, that discuss How to make your will out so that the Society can inherit everything....

  They offer their services (no need to hire a lawyer, "we'll tell you how to give us all your money") for free!!

  Also, it is a very weird thing to see/hear them list all the different things you can "donate" when you die!

  Quite audacious!

  I was truly embarrasssed!!!!!!!!!!

  Critical Differences: JW's Today Vs The Past

  jehovah's witnesses have always been a fringe, anti-intellectual movement, almost by definition.

  there is nothing new about faddish health concerns, attitudes that ignore history and science or even beliefs that defy common sense ( false prophecy for what, 130+ years?).

  however, there are two differences with jw's of the past that will prove critical for the survival of the organization today.. 1) poor financial conditions - in the past, it was possible to hold all sorts of nonsensical beliefs and still be a functional member of the human race, generally.

  I think one of the most critical differences btwn JW's of "today" and "the past" is that today, JW's cannot explain their own beliefs... they do not know their own history...

  Want a JW to explain 607? Why 1914 is soooo important? and if 1914 is wrong, what happens to 1919? Why is the date 1919 essential? Can they connect the dots?

  Not if you gave them the dots........ and the pencil.......

  They can say "JW.org... JW.org.... Jw.org..."

  Discussion with some elders

  hello everyone just wanted to relate a situation that occurred a few days ago.

  so i have quit going to meetings for a few months now based on some issues i have with the explanations of current doctrines.

  my wife is none too happy with this but over the last few months we have had some date nights and have tentitively agreed to disagree.

  There is soon to be (if as reported) a one day "elder's school" soon.

  I am sure it will be very legalistic, very "get rid of the people who think for themselves" type of a deal.

  There has already been a "talk" in the hall near us about "treating those who do not attend or go out in service as "mentally ill" and "liars, like their father the Devil"

  It will effect you.... it will........ be careful...

  Best thing you can do? Take your wife on dates, do fun things, have fun memories with her! Yah!

  She won't want to miss any of that! :-)
